Question:

Is there any way to figure out...?

... what used to be located on a property where a house is now built? My friend swears the place he rents is haunted - it's a pretty old house, maybe 100 years old or so. He's told me about some of the things he's seen/heard and now me, him and his roommate (the homeowner) are thoroughly freaked out.

I suggested to him that he should try to find out what the land used to be used for before the house was built, or if the house used to be something else. His roommate doesn't seem to know any of the history surrounding the house. I said that either the house was built on top of a cemetary or maybe something bad happened in that house years ago.

Anyway, where would we need to look for information like this?

Thanks :)

  1. Check the public library in your town.  They may have books about the town and how it started out and how it's changed thru the years.  I know our small town did...I'm not sure about the bigger towns though.  Start at the library and if they don't have anything, try doing a search online.  Also, you might try the court house in your town.  They will release certain records after someone has passed on.

  2. It was an ancient indian burial ground, but they dug up and burned all the corpses, so I dont see the problem.

  3. You need to go to hall of records & deeds.  Take the address of the home & the plot #.  They can tell you who has all owned it.

  4. Yes records of who lived there in the census and cross reference with death records ie time and place of death - or try a seance

  5. I am pyschic/ medium and have been working with solve issues much like this with people all over the USA. If you take a picture on the place and tell me what town and state it's in I will tell you what your guides want you to know about the home or land. You are there for a reason. I can help you figure out what that reason is. My service is free of charge just want to help.

  6. Your county clerks office will have deed records on every property.... you can follow them backward and get a lot of info that way.

  7. I live in a fairly large city myself.

To gather the history I get the legal description and go to the county property appraiser(this also gives me the owners names for 60 years.

Next I do an address search on the Internet to find any recent archives regarding the property.

Then I go to death records and find dates and info there.

I then head to the library to do some headline research.

Finally I go to the county Historical society and find out everything I can about the area surrounding & including this address.

This is a long process and can take awhile but it is the best way I found to know the whole history. If you know the time frame for a certian event then you could (maybe) just do the headline search and historical center.
