for Delta Airlines flights in advance? A friend is having a layover in the Atlanta-Hartsfield Airport and only has 40 minutes between flights so he wants to be prepared in regards with the distance between his arrival and departure gates...

Thanks ☺

  1. If the passenger has a SkyMiles ("frequent flyer") account with Delta, this information can be found on the website under the passenger's itineraries.

    Go to Delta.com

    Log in

    Use the pull down menu "Traveling and Check In" to locate the Itineraries page.

    Otherwise, use the "Flight Status" area of the homepage;

    it's located in the lower left hand corner.

    This allows entry of either the flight number and / or the city pairs.

    "Click" on the desired flight number to display the information.

    Please be aware that gate assignments change frequently.

    ALWAYS check the monitors in the terminal upon arrival in Atlanta.

  2. They change gates all the time. If you check in several hours early, your boarding pass won't even have the gate printed on it. In Atlanta, it's no issue to get from one terminal to another. There's a tram than runs every few minutes, so unless his flight is very late, he will be fine.

  3. On your friend's flight to Atlanta, the flight crew usually announces connecting flights and their respective gates once they land. If they don't announce his city, there are monitors at each gate listing all flights and gate numbers in Atlanta (he should look for the flight number and his destination city) and gate agents whom he can ask for help. The boarding pass will have the gate number on it, but this changes quite often in Atlanta, so I wouldn't rely on it.

    Once in Atlanta, if he has to change concourses and they are far apart, he should definitely take the tram (ex. going from Concourse A to Concourse C). If he only has to change from one concourse to the next consecutive one, it'd be faster to walk on the moving sidewalks (ex. Concourse A to Concourse B).

    If he's flying alone, I don't think he'll have any trouble getting to his connecting flight unless his flight to Atlanta is delayed. If that happens and he does miss the flight, tell him to take his boarding pass to a Delta counter in the Terminal and they can rebook him on the next available flight. I hope this doesn't happen, but it's not unusual for Atlanta.

    Tell him good luck, and to have a great flight.

    (& to the person above me - I meant to hit thumbs up but hit down by accident - sorry!)
