  1. www.livedepartureboards.co.uk - just put in the name and up will come all trains due in the next 90 minutes :)

  2. Find a schedule for whatever passenger line.

    And find correct timing(your desire).

Bring a camera and/or video camera.

  3. Look in the phone book, call Amtrak  they should be able to tell you the times and the online name to type in for scheduling.

  4. call the train company for a schedule. if not hire someone to hold there ear to the rail!

  5. Go to your nearest Station or Depot and ask for a workbook this lists passing times

  6. take a stand by the tracks and write down what you see be very careful of being on railroad property since 9/11 railroad police ain;t too friiendly and they will take you to jail

  7. If it's a passenger only line running near you, a schedule from that railway should give you an approximate idea.

If it's a freight-only line, or mixed, it's a c**p shoot.  I'd advise getting a police scanner, and programming it with the appropriate end-to-end channel of the railway.  This will give you some warning when some trains are getting close.

The only other way is just like fishing: sit trackside, and play the waiting game.
