Question:

Is there any way to fix a digital camera WITH the memory if it dropped into water?

I accidentally dropped my Sony Cybershot DSC-W55 into the water and I tried to turn it on a few times and a static screen appeared as it turned on & off by itself.

I'm not sure if it short-circuited, but right now it's not turning on at all.

I took the battery out but my camera doesn't have a memory card so all the memory is stored inside the camera, so I can't take it out.

I tried using a blow-dryer to dry the insides but it still isn't working.

Right now I'm worried that even if my camera gets repaired I won't be able to save the pictures inside of my camera.

Please help me out! :(

  1. Sorry about what happend to you.The same thing happened to me with a Kodak camera. It was never fixed.I tried the same things you mentioned and it did not work.I took it into a camera shop and they told me that it is not worth fixing.

  2. This may sound crazy, but in most cases (cell phones in particular) it has worked on some cameras. Take out the battery(s) and put it in a small plastic zip lock like plastic bag. Put enough rice in to well cover the camera (or phone) and squeeze the air out and close it. Let it sit at least over night at room temperature and the rice will draw out the moisture. The solid state electronic components and the MFP coated circuit boards will not be harmed and the information in memory should still be there. When I say "some cameras" I also mean the ones that got wet at the beach and got wet sand into them as well, the rice could not get rid of the sand.
