  1. Try DVD Shrink software.. its free and works great for me..

    http://www.dvdshrink.org/

  2. DVD Shrink isn't going to help - it's for recoding MPEG-2, not DivX.  DivX is already very highly compressed, so I'd be surprised if you can make it any smaller without the quality suffering.  Have a play with Super and see if you can do it.

  3. I'm confused. Do you want to compress DVD or convert to Divx?

To compress use DVDShrink as indicated. You can fit 2 movies in a regular DVD disk. Quality loss is minimum and is very simple to use.

To convert to divx the procedure is more complex but you can fit about 5 or 6 movies in a DVD Disk. Note that for playback you need a special DVD player DIVX compatible, conventional DVD players don't accept Divx. Also quality is significantly reduced but still much better than VHS. I have a projector system and Divx looks still great. I prefer this method than DVDShrink.

The procedure to convert is complex, you need to browse the web for the details. Basically...

    1. Use DVDShrink to rip the DVD movie to you PC (you can't just copy the folders from the DVD due to protections, DVDShrink can overcome those protections).

    2. Use DVD2AVI and VFApi utilities to get access to the movie from AVI interfaces.

    3. Separately you must process the audio and convert it to Mp3, there're many utilities to do this.

    4. Use VirtualDubMod to convert the AVI + MP3 into Divx. You need to install Divx codec also for this.

As I said, it is a complex procedure but not impossible... there's plenty of info about it on the web.

    Good luck
