Desktops usually have ethernet ports for LAN connections.wireless cards dont come on desktops, i wonder the same !!! why companies wont do that when they have the technology

If you have the money, "HUES NET" will give you satellite internet service, kinda like SAT TV.

the wi-max suggestion is a good one, if it is available in your area..

while you said with out phone or cable, cable modem would be your best option, fastest, best value...

satellite internet is available, but rather expensive...

EV-DO cellular internet is also an option in many areas (sprint or verizon) more expensive and slower then DSL/cable, but it is mobile, and faster then dial up, and they are still improving and adding speed to these types of networks) you can either get a USB device or a laptop card - they sell routers that accept the laptop card so you can share the internet connection with wifi, or a wired lan...

and finallay, they DO have wi-fi PCI cards for desktop computers, and have had them as long as wi-fi has been around.. i dont know what box some of the people who answered this question are living in...

Wireless internet its expensive and you need to add a wireless router to it.

Wireless is the easiest. Go with Insight Broadband, and then get a router from LinkSYS. It works great!
