I don't drive and I would prefer if there was some sort of train taking me from Poughkeepsie and landing me at Princeton Junction. I don't mind shifting multiple trains. But I need to be able to get there by 8 or at most at 9.

  1. You get a train south to new york and then switch to one to PJ. It can't be more than a 2 hour trip if trains are running on a schedule that matches up evenly. relax--you'll get there. Wave as you go through New Brunswick--that is where I live.

  2. Unfortunately what you're proposing to do isn't really feasible.  You're going from one of the far northern suburbs of New York City to one of the far southern suburbs, in the process passing through or around one of the most congested metropolitan areas in the country.

The only combination of trains that might work, at least on a one-shot basis, would be the 5:40am from Poughkeepsie to Grand Central, and then a subway ride across town to Penn Station, and then the 7:51 New Jersey Transit train that arrives at 8:59am.  Not very good....

For what it's worth, driving all that distance isn't all that good either.

  3. My friend, the best thing I can tell you is taking Metro-North's Hudson Line from Poughkeepsie to Grand Central.

Once at Grand Central, transfer to the New York City subway. Take the 42nd Street Shuttle from Grand Central to Times Square and then transfer to the downtown (southbound) # 1, 2 or 3 trains (Red Line) 34th Street-Penn Station.

At Penn Station take the NJT's Northeast Corridor Line from Penn Station to Princeton Junction.

I hope this information is very helpful. Good luck.

  4. Do you Priceston University Station?

    1.

    Via Train/Subways

    To me best way:

Take 5:15am Hudson Line on Metro-North which is peak fare which cost $17.75 from ticket window/vending machine.

It arrives Grand central @ 6:50am.

Take 42nd St Shuttle or Times Sq-bound (7) to Times Sq, then get on downtown 1, 2 or 3 one stop to NYC Penn Station, then take Northeast Corridor. Try to get on express.
