Is there any way to get into US from Canada, driving without a passport?

Is there any way of driving from Canada to US without a passport? I heard that a substitution for a passport is bringing your Canadian citizenship documents? I'm going on a trip to US in 2 weeks but a passport takes approximately 3 weeks to make, and I don't have the time so, if anyone knows any substitutions to get past the border without a passport, please list them down. (my transportation method is the car)

Passports are NOT needed to drive between Cnada and the U.S.  They will not be needed for LAND travel until June 1, 2009.  Right now, you need a photo I.D. and birth certificate.
