I've been taking synthroid for almost 10 years for what was deemed a slightly inactive thyroid. I was given the lowest dose and now it has more than tripled.

  1. Completely cut fluoride out of your diet as much as possible and try to supplement your diet with (safe) iodine.

Hypothyroid generally comes from fluoride replacing the iodine in the thyroid and making it cease functioning. (in the old days, the cure for hyperthyroid was to take a bath in fluorinated water, so as you'd expect repeated expose to fluoride can give you hypothyroid).

Additionally, Chinese medicine has a completely different way of going about solving the problem of a deficient thyroid, and I know quite a few people who have gotten in fixed that way. However, to do so requires you to find a skilled/good Chinese doctor, and many people practicing these days aren't too good (in other words some research on your own part!).

I also know certain good mind body exercise practices (ie. certain Tai Chi forms, Chi Gung, yoga) can help, although the efficacy is dependent on the exact method you choose (and will often come as a minor side effect to an over change/improvement in health and vitality), but the first two things I listed are a lot simpler and easier to do in terms of getting the job done.

I personally am of the opinion using drugs for this condition is really really silly, but it seems we use drugs for everything ~,~

Props to you for wanting to get out of the cycle!

    Hope that helps.

  2. There are a couple of points which might be helpful.

    1. Practise Yoga - especially Sarvangasana. you can google and find out more on this yoga asana / posture.

    2. Get yourself treated by a classical homeopath. Homeopathy has an answer to thyroid problems.

If you can make it a habit to perform Sarvangasana everyday, then your thyroid gland will be alive and kicking pretty soon!

  3. I did not explore the sites recommended to you and this might be redundant but I will offer it anyway!! First with an underactive thyroid -which  I have experienced - one must first look to see if your iodine level is sufficient for proper thyroid function!! Most doctors do not check iodine levels but go directly to prescribing synthroid!! This is a mistake!

A simple do it yourself test will reveal if you ahve enough iodine!! Most people do not in america due to emphasis on red meat and little seafood etc.. !!

Test is to place a round 2 inch bullseye of tincture of iodine -same as used on cuts - on yor inner thigh !! If it is gone within 24 hours ,your body has absorbed it and indicates a deficiency in iodine!! Simply supplementation will resolve that and get your thyroid functioning again properly!!

I had a throid prob. , did the test which showed deficiency ,supplemented and my thyroid is now functioning normally!! Others have done the same with equal results -showing that there is a simple remedy -at least for SOME!!

It does not hurt to try and at least you will know if you are in need !! If that is the case potassium iodide and prolamine iodine are good supplements!! After a month or so check the thyroid or iodine test and reduce supplementation since too much will overactivate the thyroid !! occassional supplementation will suffice, then!!!!!!

  4. yes.

Go to a reiki practioner. It helps your energy flow. You can have all the nutrients you need, but they all have to make a connection. I'm sure you've heard that you need iodine, but you also need selenium (brazil nuts, seafood) to activate your T3s and T4s.  You probably already know this, but chlorine and flouride is so bad for your thyroid. (drink reverese osmosis water or spring water if you live in the city). Chlorine and flouride are molecularly similar to iodine, so they can latch onto your t cells and block iodine. It's so important to cut out drinking city water. Also avoid triclosan. (it can also mess up your thyroid and is found in those anti-bacterial soaps) Also, coconut oil helps. (you can do refined or unrefined but i prefer refined). The lauric acid in it jump starts your thyroid.  I also have been drinking more powerade ( b vitamins ) and have noticed signifacant energy improvements. Don't go crazy with the milk. Calcium can block selenium absorption. If you don't want to try reiki (but you should) you can also sleep with some strong magnets taped to your throat when you sleep. Also avoid goitrogen veggies (like brocoli). google goitrogens to get a complete list.

you also may have cfs from mono/epstein bar virus, which can greatly fatigue you. Olive leaf extract is very powerful at destroying these viruses.

please feel free to google all that I have mentioned. best of luck to you.

  5. I have Hypothyroidism and am 35 now. I was diagnosed about 20 years ago with it and have been taking Synthroid/Levothyroxine for the majority of that time. I am doing ok with it. It just means a check up on blood every 6-12 months to make sure of right levels on your side and the doctors side. May wanna check with him/her to know for sure.

  6. Adding Iodine is not going to work.  Correcting the assimilation of Iodium by the body  is necessary.  For that Iodium can be used in potentised form of homeopathic doses.  In obese persons (normally those who suffer hypothyroidism are obese), Iodium 3X (lower potency) is of value.  Thyroidinum can replace Thyroxin to large extent.  Craving for sugar is an important symptom.  If there is inflammation Baryta Iodide in 3X will be of immense value.  If it has become poisonous Belladonna 1X will help. Medicine Tuberculinum in highest potencies will always be required in the start of medication.  Calcaria Carb 200 on alternate days will help the calcium assimilation and reduce obesity.  Ferrum Phos 6X and Kali Karb(use sparingly) will help if it is connected with menstruation.  If it had started from the time of puberty Calcaria iodide 3X has to be used.

The above is an information.  Medicines have to be used after consultation with a doctor who can judge which medicines suits you.
