  1. i think you answe to that girl about the funeral is cold but hilarious... just wanted to say so. will we really care less and less about life as we grow?hummmmm...

    thanks!

  2. No there is not.

But what we market farmers do is plant bolt resistant varieties in hot weather, use shade cloth (at least 50% shade, 70% to 90% is better) lots of irrigation, misters are better than drip tape and we replant every 7 to 10 days for a constant supply of lettuce and harvest when the lettuce is about 1/2 the size you would expect in spring or fall. In hot weather even harvested small, the lettuce will be on the bitter side

Broccoli raab you would treat the same way

  3. It is possible to delay bolting by using a shade cloth and keeping the soil moist  however they are cool season crops for a reason. Planting bolt resistant varieties of lettuce is the only thing you can do this time of year I have summertime head lettuce it is the only one of my lettuces that hasnt gone bitter in the heat black seeded simpson is coming up well too.

  4. Its nature way of reseeding itself and its hard to fight Mother nature.  Start early in the spring and try later in the summer and try to time it so it matures before the frost comes.  Lettuce will take some frost esp. with a covering..
