Is there any way to kill a cell phone and make it look like a software malfunction?

i paid $400 for a phone that is a piece of c**p. They told me if i go through 3 phones in 30 days i can get a different phone of equal value. i want a different phone. i have a month to get this one to die

You can try unlocking it improperly. That might mess up the phone.
