Question:

Is there any way to know if a meat company/farm uses lower-methane producing feeds?

I'm doing a speech on livestock methane emissions and I know there are some types of feeds that greatly reduce the amount the animals produce during digestion. Does anyone know if there is a way (other than writing to the company/farm) of knowing which companies currently use these types of feeds or know of any specific ones that do? Websites would be helpful!

  1. In addition to certain feed ingredients to include or avoid.

Also look at feed additives (chemical and biological), pre-treatments etc.

    Good Luck on your speech.

  2. I am a cattleman with lots of cattle, I think the only place you might find it would be a small niche market. As far as I know none of the large slaughter or feeder operations have a nationalmarketing program of which you speak. The beef industry in North America is still reeling from BSE. We spent so much money defending our product it diverted promotional $$$ from some truly good progress our indusry could have followed sucjh as methane reduction
