Is there any way to make a hole in a VERY thin glass vase (rounded surface)?

its VERY thin, and glass, and the surface is rounded....how do we make a hole?

  1. Is this vase very valuable?  If so, don't even try.  It's very, very difficult to drill a hole through glass.  Glass shatters when you make a hole in it.  If you're willing to take the risk of losing the vase, then you could call around professional glass shops in your area and see if you can find someone with a diamond drill who's willing to take this on. I'll bet he doesn't guarantee the results!


  2. Ideas:

    (1) Melt a hole with one of those tiny portable gas torches.

    (2) Fill it with molten wax to support the inside and let it harden, then grind a hole with a Dremel type drill with grinding attachment or hard drill bit. Then melt out the wax.

    (3) Etch a hole with hydrofluoric acid.
