Is there any way to make fencing armor out of cardbourd? or anything like that?

I want to fence but i dont have that much money i can afford the sword and i want to know if there and any way to make armor myself?

You really should get the mask, but othewise just wear loads of layers. Chest protectors could be made out of cardboard but 3-4 thick layers of clothing should do.
