I know that you can password protect a worksheet to where you have to have a password to change things. I am wondering if there is a way to put a password on a document so that you cant open it unless you know the password. Thank you!

  1. Yep, this can be done quite easily.

when you choose the save (or save as) option and the dialogue box comes up to choose your name and location, you'll notice in the top icons of the box an option called Tools.  Drop that down and there's an option called General Options.  You can add your password there. Now whenever you try to open the file, you'll be prompted for a password first.

PS: keep in mind the passwords ARE CASE-SENSITIVE so remember exactly how you typed it in

  2. If you want to add a password without Saving As i.e. making a copy of your worksheet, or wish to change or delete your password, click Tools > Options > Security tab
