Question:

Is there any way to recycle shredded paper?

Since all our recyclables get thrown in together they have to be sorted at some point, so I've never thrown shredded paper in there figuring it would just become so many pieces of litter at that point. Is this true? If I put it in a sealed paper bag would it get around the problem? If processes vary from place to place, I live in Southern California.

  1. Yes it can.  We recycle over 50,000 tons of shredded paper a month.  Most becomes tissue paper but some becomes new office paper.  Don't but it in the sealed bag as it will simply be tossed when the newspaper is sorted.  Call you curbside company to see how they would like it.

  2. i usually put it in my recycle box but save a little for my 2 year old who likes making pictures with it.

  3. I had the same problem. I just use my shreaded paper as packing materials and I use it in presents for padding in the boxes. I also use it to line pet cages (hamsters and birds). If I have any left, I put it in a garbage bag that is see-through and they pick it up in the recycling. Good luck!

  4. If you can treat it with fire retardant, it makes the worlds best attic insulation. It never needs to be reapplied like fiber glass does and if you treat it with boric acid it will kill bugs like termites.

  5. Find someone who keeps Guinea Pigs, they could use the shredded paper for bedding.

  6. if you put it through a shredder. your cat/kitten can use it in the litter box

  7. You can recycle shredded paper by putting it inside of the recycle bin that's either for newspapers or for anything and put it out for the garbage men to come and get.

  8. ya, you can, like Anna H said give it to some one who has a small rodent. or even better donate it to the local pound/animal shelter! you could really help!!

or you could not be as helpfull and just put it into a recycle box!

it is nice of you to think of the enviorment!

  9. Include it with you other recycling.  In a sealed bag is a great idea.

  10. i am involved in a recycling group at my college and this issue came up for us as well. at first our recycling place was unable to take shredded paper, but they grew into a larger facility and are now able to receive shredded paper. so to answer your question you need to call your recycling center number and simply ask, because it all depends on them. i am not certain which facility you are going to, because you have over 20 different options for Southern California, but here is a link that you can use in order to find the number of the exact location you are using.

  11. bag it and place into the bin they will know what to do with it
