I have a cd-r with very important information in it that got wet. Some water fell on it and I quickly dried it off. But I haven't been able to open in my laptop since then and there's information that I can't get back. Please help.

  1. CD are made out of polycarbonate plastic and calcadinide.

They are not affected by water. As long as you keep them out of light they should last about 1000 years.

If you ware having problems, then it may be with the disk itself.

Try ISOBUSTER, it has a free trial, and allows to restore some data....and only costs $30 if you want it....

I bought a copy.....it even reads that fake-a-s-s cdrw type format for CDR called directcd from adaptec....

  2. Water should not cause damage to a CD-R, as they are (supposed to be) watertight.

Are there any scratches, dirt, fingerprints on the CD-R that could affect readability?

  3. Water should not have damaged it since your info is laser-embedded.

Hopefully you didn't roughly dry it. Bad scratches and nicks will sometimes not allow it to load. Check to make sure your CD-ROM is OK by trying a known good CD. Gently wash with dish soap, and DRY with soft tissue. Gently rub from center of disc to the edge. You could check it in another PC. Good for DVDs also.

    Good luck
