Is there any way to repress memory??

So i'm moving from the UK to Canada in the next few months, it's going to be like a totally different life for me. I'm moving from a busy drugged up tourist resort with beaches and night clubs, to a Canadian mountain to become a ski patroller. There's a certinan feeling i've had for most of my life in the UK, and some people i manage to think about everyday and bringing those thoughts to Canada will ruin everything for me. I've had luck before with repression and managed to block a few things out that i can't even recall today, but now i want to deal with the whole thing and start a new life.

Anyone know of any hypnotherapy or techniques to just block things out forever??

  1. Really think the term you are looking for is suppress. Repressing, is done as a defense, in a attempt to avoid anxiety cause by a traumatic experience. Suppressed is done on a conscious level, and is a action one takes to dismiss, unwanted memories. The best way of doing that is exactly what you are doing, by replacing old memories with new. Living in the NOW, those are all in the past and should be left there. You can of course try hypnotherapy, but I really don't think you need to. After a few days on Ski Patrol in Canada the past will be forgotten.

    I really do envy you in the life you are about to begin. I am remember some really wonderful winters in Vermont, and Skiing there. Enjoy !  


  2. try NLP - neuro linguistic programming.. get some expert to show you the relavant techniques. it helps you to 'rewire' certain images and voices etc

  3. repression only occurs subconsciously. you cannot, and should not force yourself to forget. in fact, repression only causes more problems, not less. psychiatrists often treat repressed patients by making them confront their feelings, so try to manage that certain feeling you're feeling, not repress it.
