Question:

Is there any way to request accelerated processing for application for US citizenship?

My wife is applying for US citizenship. I'm told that they will contact her for fingerprints and an interview. I'm told that the interview will include the civics test. The USCIS website (below) says that citizenship cases (N-400) are being processed for July 20, 2007 for Dallas, Texas. This is a problem because her daughter turns 18 on 4/4/09. If her mother becomes a citizen before then she becomes a citizen automatically. It looks like it will be next July before her mother can get it. Is there any way to do a hardship exception to move us up in the line since we have a good reason?

  1. I don't see where the hardship in your situation is.

If your wifes naturalization is approved before 4/4/09 then her daughter becomes a US citizen automatically due to her age.

If her naturalization is not approved before 4/4/09 then her daughter does not become a US citizen automatically. What problems arise with the daughter not being a US citizen? What is her status now?

Need a little more information to answer this properly.

Edit - No, you'd never get that through on the basis of hardship I am afraid. Your daughter isn't obligated to file for naturalization, so there is no hardship in terms of splitting of family if the mother is naturalized before a date where the daughter would automatically obtain citizenship. If she had to be approved by a certain time or she'd lose her status, then there may have been a case for it, but not in this situation I am afraid.
