Is there any way to ruin your singing voice?

I love singing and try to do different things to make my singing sound more deeper and mature and i was wondering if doing that, could i mess up my singing voice? Or is there any way to mess it up..if any what?

You can permanently mess up your singing voice by straining/overstretching your vocal chords.  Don't be a cheerleader. Don't scream. Keep your voice down at sports events.  Stay away from smoking and smoky atmospheres.

Strengthen your voice by good diet and sleep habits, improving your general health, and doing vocal stretching exercises that widen your range.  

Smoking is a false "fix" to deepen your voice by relaxing your vocal chords.  There are also too many proven bad side effects to smoking!  

Vocal exercise is a far better solution.  Talk to a voice teacher at a local college.  It's worth the price of a few lessons to get professional help.

If you have any tension in your throat or face area whatsoever, it can result in permanent damage. The tongue is especially bad as it's connected to the hyoid bone, which is connected to the muscles that control the larynx (singing with a tense tongue is like trying to run Olympic sprints with a three-year-old wrapped around your leg). Please see a qualified voice teacher (and not every teacher who is a member of an association is qualified). They should concentrate first on good technique, beginning with breathing, and be able to find and remove tension in different areas of your voice. Breathiness, nasality, singing in "full chest" voice and other bad habits can destroy your voice in a matter of weeks or months.

I'm sure you've heard of nodes on the cords. Those are calluses caused by incorrect use. Usually to heal nodes requires either complete vocal rest or expensive and painful surgery. So do yourself a favour and find a good teacher and preserve your voice for as long as you can!

Usually, singers/musicians get laryngitis, from giving their all in a concert or whatever else. Just go easy on your voice.
