Is there any way to tell if my golf clubs or driver shaft needs to be shortened?

I am 5'4" and I think my clubs might be too long for me.

Could this have an impact on how far I can hit the ball with my driver?

  1. Well in long drive competitions....well they all hit really long drivers....46" and up.   But to answer your question....get yourself fitted.....your question indicates a confidence problem in your clubs....probably the only way to cure it is to get your clubs fitted to you.....

  2. Yes, the clubs we buy are very suitable for American standards. So with your height, it may seem a bit long. However, if you practice with it by moving back a little in a very comfortable stance, it will do. But customizing its length will add an advantage though. It may require some numerous experimenting in adjusting to a perfect length to suit you, if you wanna pursue on it.

  3. Distance is a function of clubhead speed, not your height.  Length of club has nothing to do with height, but only the distance between you hands and the ground.  If your arms are in proportion to your body you don't need custom clubs.  Only if your arms are short for your body would you need longer clubs, or if they are long for your body you could need shorter than standard clubs even though you are only 5'4" tall.  If your first knuckle (closest to your thumb) is about 33 inches from the ground when you stand and let your arms hang naturally at your sides you don't need custom length clubs.

  4. If you hit well no.  If you don't, get a fitting session, it could be the length, could be the loft, could be the flex, could be the head profile, etc.

But strictly from length perspective, for a 5'4", the standard driver length (usually 45") is 1" too long.

  5. if you think they are too large you might need to choke up on the club if you do not want to buy another set. If you go to buy another set get yourself fitted.  This does impact all your shots.

  6. Here bud, take a look at this chart.

This will help a lot. I know though that the more I practiced the more I noticed how short my clubs are. The common mistake of amateurs is that we want to get our heads as close to the ball as we can because we feel like we have more control this way. So think about that before you break out your hacksaw.
