Bought my horse and was told he had good bloodlines, but they didnt have any paper work. Just wondering if you could tell if he had good bloodlines by any type of test. Im thinking he may be appendix quarter horse, but im not sure.

  1. Not really. You could tell what breed he was, or genetic info of a general nature, but would need specific horses to test against each other to verify parentage [bloodlines]. If he's healthy and sound and looks good, that's what matters if you have no pedigree to look at. And sometimes, good bloodlines doesn't get you a nice horse at all or you can have the opposite with nondescript bloodlines getting you a nice horse. Frankly, if someone is selling a horse and they have no paperwork at all, they should not make a statement like this as there's no way to prove it's true or not.

  2. They can do a DNA test to determine what breed he is, but his bloodline has to be determined by the breeder and whatever registry he's in.
