Is there any way to uprate a Panasonic DVD HDD recorder to burn at 16x speed instead of its 8x specification?

Its a two year old DMR-EH 50. It uses 8x speed DVD-Rs and but there doesn't appear doesn't to be much quality 8x speed around. Was a big fan of Verbatim.

And yes, before you say it, I could perhaps contact Panasonic but have you tried getting a helpful answer from them lately?

Nope! you'll have to upgrade your recorder.
