Is there any way to verify authenticity of a supplier from China ?

My company imports computer parts and peripherals from Hongkong. Recently we are getting very competitive rates from some of the parties in china. But since we haven't done any business in past we are not pretty much sure about them. So, just wanted to find a way to check out their authenticity. Are they genuinely doing business or they are phony ? We all know there are a bunch of scammers all over these days and internet has made them even easier to make approaches.
