  1. I wash mine at a local laundromat so I don't over-tax my home machine. I toss a couple of tennis balls into the dryer to help fluff up the down. You can also use a pair of old rubber-soled slippers. They'll do the fluffing for you. I do this with down-filled jackets, too, because cleaning can be very costly. I've had the comforter for 20+ years and it gets an annual washing with periodic freshenings outdoors in between washes.

  2. No, Dry Clean it  only, you'll mess it up otherwise!

  3. I wouldn't.  The down will get a really bad smell if you get it wet.  I know it's easier to do it at home, but trust me, take it to the cleaners.  Check around, there are some cleaners, that if you get the item in by 8 in the morning, you can get it back by 5 that evening.  Good luck.

  4. Down will degrade in a washer faster than if you take it to the dry cleaners. Your comforter will end up flat and maybe even lumpy in places.

They sell dry cleaning kits at the grocery store. Try cleaning your down comforter at home with one of those if you just don't want to go to the dry cleaner.
