Is there any way you can save money on a rail season ticket?

I read an article in the Guardian around January time that said if you bought a train season ticket in the South of England, you were then entitled to a 'Gold Card' which allowed you to save a third on subsequent season tickets. The idea being that you buy a very cheap season ticket to get the gold card, then save on the one you actually need.

I looked into this: Southern trains says you are entitled to a gold card which gives a 34% discount on 'off-peak' travel, but you don't get a discount on subseqent season tickets.

Is there any way at all you can save money on season tickets?

  1. Not that I know of. Only on individual fares do I get a 1/3 discount

  2. You're saving money by buying a Season Ticket in the first place, as it's cheaper than buying daily tickets.

For example: A Peak Day Travelcard from Brighton to London, including All Zones on the Underground, is £37.80.

The 7 Day Travelcard is £94.00 (less than 2.5 times the daily rate), the Monthly is £361 (just over 9.5 times the daily rate, 3.84 times the weekly), and the Annual is £3760 (99.5 times the daily rate, 40 times the weekly, 10.4 times the monthly).

  3. you can try to type in southern trains promotion codes into google and see if any help you, i do it all the time with amtrak

  4. If you buy an annual Gold Card Season Ticket you save money just like if you buy a monthly ticket it work out cheaper than buying a weekly ticket. Say you buy a monthly ticket to travel in zones 1-4 on the railway it cost for a month £105 so buying it over a year you spend £1260.00, while buying the Gold Card ticket will cost about £1000.00 or there abouts.

  5. yeah use somebody else's

thought i'd say that before anybody else did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
