Question:

Is there any website where I can learn the dialect spoken in Calabria?

I've learnt Italian at school but want to learn the Calabrese dialect (it is the dialect my family speak I think). I've looked at http://www.circolocalabrese.org/library/language/index.asp but it doesn't seem to have much and not much that I can learn from.

Does anyone here know Calabrese or know where I could learn it? Even just a basic list of words, verbs..etc, the general principles and stuff would be great.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Everyone in Italy nowadays will know standard Italian.

  2. Hi! I'm Italian from Rome, and I speak the Roman dialect, as well as the school Italian (really just Sienese dialect(. What I can tell you is that the best way to learn is to speak with a person who speaks their dialect - no website will assist you. There are way too many nuances etc. to get it correct. You can just use the Italian you know from school, because it will be enough to get by. Hope it helps!

  3. calabrese is a dialect that you need to listen  i am from Cosenza central part of Calabria  however in Calabria every little town has its own dialect . happy trails
