I'm planning to tryout for the school volleyball tram, but the problem is that I'm not all that good at it.When I serve the ball it tends to go backwards.I'm not sure how to hold the ball the correct way or to serve it.And when I'm in the front, I don't know if I should hit or let the person next to me hit it.Help me!! I really want to make the team.=/

  1. ok serving is pretty much your toss. your toss has to be high not too high because then you have to wait. but not to short because then you cant extend your arm and the ball will go into the net. normally throw it with one hand so if your a righy you can get ready. i guess serving would be like hitting. use the bow and arrow technique (well i do) .if your right handed start with your left foot in front and as you hit the ball drag your right foot. its kinda hard to explain online. and in front row. i dont play it but just be agressive coaches like that. if you think you have a better shot at hitting the ball then the person next to you. go for it. just remember be agressive and call the ball. and husle. well good luck.

  2. first of all, flick your wrist after you hit it.

since i'm right handed, ill explain it that way.

In serving, ideally, your feet should be about shoulder width apart with your left foot slightly in front of you. The ball should be in your left hand in front of your right shoulder. Toss the ball up with your left, take a swing with your right, and follow through.

Now, when your in front, just call the ball. If you both call it, then be aggressive and hit hte ball yourself.

  3. ok, when bumping, always, ALWAYS keep your legs bent! it gives u more control, so stay low! as far as letting someone else hit it, take the ball! call it, and then go for it, atleast try, never think the person next to u is gonna handle it cause maybe they wont, u never know, and with surving, maybe work on bending down and leaning a little bit forward and taking a step right before swinging , for over hand, stand side ways, toss and while hitting, rotate your body so u get a good swing, so dont be afraid of the ball. coaches always like someone who hustles! so during a water break run to ur water, drink and run back, when shagging a ball (getting the ball) run to it and run back. they also like someone who listens, so on the day of tryouts, listen 100% of the time. dont get distracted. if u dont listen, they will think u dont care and u wont make the team. next, be LOUD! when calling a ball, yell so everyone can hear you. just follow some basic tips and u'll do fine, even if it isnt ur year, take some camps and show them the next year that u are a good volleyball player, never give up!

    BEST OF LUCK!

  4. As far as volleying it goes, don't EVER assume the other person is going to go for it. If the other person is lunging for the ball, do the same. That way if they miss, you're still there to get it. The coach will see you do this and be impressed with your initiatve.

As far as serving goes, I can't help you there, my serves only have a 47% success rate :/
