Question:

Is there anyone I can speak to about my brother's excessive speeding?

I have absolutely no idea whether the DSA can do anything.

I've now vowed never to get in a car with my brother again. Last week driving over to a friends house and in a 30pmh zone with speedbumps, he was doing over 60mph (easily seen on his speedo). I asked him to slow down and he wouldn't - he just doesn't care, and doesn't see his speed as a problem. I'm convinced he's going to cause a nasty accident, and at that speed, probably kill someone.

My parents know about this - we've all said something but he won't listen. Are we seriously going to have to wait until he's caught speeding by the police, or worse, when it's too late for someone?

  1. Report him to the police it's for his own and all other street users good!!

  2. Tell your story to the police department and they will have a talk with him as well as watching him and he will get the message.

  3. I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY YOU ARE WORRIED. AND YOU ARE QUITE RIGHT HE WILL END UP KILLING EITHER HIMSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE. MAYBE YOU SHOULD TELL HIM YOU ARE GOING TO REPORT HIM IF HE DOESN'T SLOW DOWN. AND YOU WILL HAVE TO FOLLOW IT THROUGH, BETTER FOR HIM TO LOSE HIS LICENCE THAN LOSE HIS LIFE.

  4. If it was me, I would pop in to a police station and alert them to what he is doing and provide them with his registration number.

  5. If you have spoke to him and he choose's not to act on that advice, then I am afraid the chances of him getting, or causing, a serious injury are high.

  6. You parents should be stricter with him.

Does he own the car, and does he pay all the bills (petorl, insurance etc)?  If not, they should withhold it unless he slows down.

If he owns the car, there's nothing he can do.  You can try reporting to the police, but unless they catch him, they won;t do anything.

  7. You will have to wait until he ploughs into a bus queue.  The crushing knowledge that he has killed several innocent people should make him think twice before speeding again.

  8. Obviously not a 'defensive' driver. Tut tut. 'Grass him up' and get him 'nicked.' You'll be doing him a favour.

  9. report to police who may monitor him at some time before it is to late

  10. I agree with Marky.  Does he still live at home?  Your parents should take away his car keys if he's not prepared to live by their rules while living under their roof.

  11. Tell your brother he is an idiot and inform your local police station. Because if you do nothing, it will be our children and families at risks of dying !

  12. Excessive speeding is like a drug addiction (because it is).

I used to use adrenaline rushes to kill my emotional pain. It was not till I joined AA that I learned that.

So I would suggest that you look into what a "confrontation" is when dealing with addiction. This is what may be needed. But be prepared to deal with a lot of nasty facts, because there are reasons for this pain and there maybe other family problems that your family is in denial about. Like sexual or physical abuse.

But until you all are willing to deal with how dysfunctional your family is, and/or he hits bottom, there can be no true solution.

Been there, done that and still trying to overcome it.

  13. Theres not much you can actually do here. i mean you can speak to him, show him pictures of crashes, tell him the results of being caught by the police and even introduce him to accident victims, BUT he already will know about these and still does it anyway.

What i will tell you for a fact is that he is not purposly ignoring your comments and worry for him, he just can't drive without going fastser than others. its natural to him.

However the good news is he is probably a better driver than most, so he is less liable to have an accident throughout his life, but if he does have one, its probably going to be much more horrific than the average crash.

I know this because i drive too fast and my family tells me this all the time

    xx

  14. I agree with alot of the others.  Make a call to your local police.  You will feel awful if someone gets hurt and you did nothing to curb his enthusiasm for speed.

  15. maybe a community support officer, or police... if you explain to them, they should give you a leaflet and a dvd of accidents caused by speeding. and what distress it can leave behind.  a similar thing happened with me (the passenger).

    I hope i helped you.

    =]

  16. Rat him out to a cop, before he kills someone.

  17. search the net and see if you can find some info on nick hogan ''hulk hogan's son . he was in a very bad crash and put his best friend in the hospital in coma, now he has to face the JUDGE ...what if his friend dies ,then think of the punishment. hope this will point you in the right direction.

  18. it depends on how old he is if he is between the age 16-18 then have your parents just to take his keys. my brother just got his liscence and he speeds but i told him to stop and he doesent speed when im in the car also if your older than him than beat him up. there is also sites on internet where it shows what will happen if you speed. speed is like a drug the more you do it the more excited you feel when you do it. i don't know if you can do this but have a police officer pull him over and have the police officer set him strait. nothin scares you more than getting pulled over by a cop.

  19. Did he not read or see on the news what that idiot done who was doing 70mph in a 30 lane? a perfectly healthy baby was left brain dead and for what? a quick frill on the road - id shop him in to the police before he kills someone if not himself

At least your sensible enough to care xx

  20. He sounds young and immature. Is he too old for your parents to take his keys off him? Your parents should send him to a driver awareness course. My dad bought me a car on the condition that I complete a safe driving and defensive driving course. This was years ago by the way but I hope there is something near you? GOOD LUCK

  21. Report this to your local police, before he kills other people or himself, or get your parents to disable the car so he cannot drive it

  22. Not sure what country you're in but if you're in the UK, the police will almost certainly not be bothered to take any preventative action, they are all far too busy chasing quick & easy crimes to detect & solve to make government statistics look good ...

At the first possible opportunity, get him onto one of these - http://www.flickr.com/photos/mattseymour...

Try to find out if there's one of these 7mph crash simulators near you then keep taunting your brother calling him a chicken if he refuses to go and take a ride in the device ...

I've been saying for a long time that a quick jolt in one of these simulators should be a compulsory part of the licensing procedure so that everyone gets to feel the physics of a 7mph impact and can work out for themselves what a 30 or 50 or 70 or 100 mph impact would be like.

Maybe ask the police and/or the local driving test centre if they know where your nearest crash simulator is.

    Hope this helps ;)

  23. report him to the police, it is better to do that than to wait until he is involved in an accident and kills someone or himself, one day he will thank you for it.

    mary a

  24. Try to talk to him all of you and convince him that it is not right to drive with excessive seed, and explain all the hazard that exist and the possibility of an accident were he is involved and that it could be a fatal one for him or a pedestrian

  25. The best things to do!! Tell to the Police.Ciao and good luck 4 your brother

  26. If he does it every time he is in the car just wait til he goes out and find out exactly where he is going and call the police and send them in that direction.

I know its not nice to call the police on a family member but you seem so intelligent that he could cause an accident that its better to be safe and him have a hefty fine than for him to be up on a wreckless driving, speeding and murder charge

  27. wot time is he driving like this but don't get in the car with him if he is driving to fast for you, and he will end up fecking his car up
