...you totally have different opinions with but still get along with that person?

I do. I always was a person that looked at every ones side of the story. Even if I didn't agree I would still listen and take seriously.

So do you have different views with a person on GWS but still take that person opinions seriously?

  1. My husband and I were at different ends of the spectrum when we met. I was a Christan, he was an atheist; I was conservative, he was a communist; this list goes on like this... We both liked to debate, however, and it made our relationship more interesting. Now, we've both moved in the other person's direction. With the exception of my beliefs about abortion and male/female relationships, I'm now quite liberal.  I'm not really a Christian anymore, although I believe that there is some factual basis behind the idea of a god. He's now a conservative, and an agnostic who believes that there might be a god.  We've come a long way together, and I think we've grown because we were open minded enough to hear the other person's perspective.

  2. Sure. I went to high school with a group of very conservative, religious Catholic girls. I'm very liberal and Agnostic. But we got along great anyway, and I'm still very close to some of them!

In my mind, it's less about differing views and more about personalities melding well. I respect anyone who has a unique perspective as long as they have good intentions and aren't hurting anyone with their ideals/actions.

Besides, debate and discussion are fun!

  3. There are a couple of people whose answers I always read and take into consideration who have very different views from mine.

That is because they are obviously intelligent people who are not just here to belittle everyone with mean spirited questions and puerile responses.

And other than that, there are quite a lot of 'middle of the road' people who are good fun, interesting and worth the time to read, especially when their views differ from mine because they often have something witty and original to say.

But other than those, unfortunately no.

There are many I simply scroll past when I see their avatars, because it's always same old same old.

    Cheers :-)

  4. As long as that person doesn't get too personal, I keep my view and he can keep his.  It doesn't bother me one bit.

  5. Yes Fereshte and I have had private arguments before via e-mail and I don't agree with much of what she says but I think in real life I could hang out with her.

I like the aproach she uses to answer questions you can tell that she takes a moment to think before she speaks I still think she is wrong about a lot of things but she makes the effort and I like that.

  6. yes. its good to hear different viewpoints of important and non-important matters.

  7. No one specific..but yes would respect differing opinions always, but not when they are often couched in such vile, hateful or venomous terms.

On here for example, discussing equality, whether it be gender or race etc...some revert to tacky sexist insults and it simply demeans the argument. Give me an opposing valid reason and will mull it over!

  8. Yes

  9. with me it would depend on what subject we were giving the opinion on.  For instance if a person was racist i probably would not get along with them.If someone hated animals, i would not get along with them, if someone was liberal, no, Of course i would listen what their opinions are, but just mark them off of my list as "stupid" or dangerously stupid".

  10. haha my friend jackie, we just argue and abuse each other we almost never agree yet for some reason we get along. yes i do.

  11. yes I don't mind if people disagree with me or have different views as long as they are courteous.
