  1. It's difficult to obtain full citizenship, but if you are retired and have a pension, you can have all the citizen privledges except voting or working.

I'm not sure about the cost of rent.  Food is a little less than here.  If you like rice and beans you can eat on $150/ month.

It is expensive for Central America, but cheap for USA.

December is the beginning of summer.  It is perfect.  The rainy season is over.  The sun shines all day.

Medical is comparable to the US.  Many doctors are US trained.  Most speak English.

I don't know about the social life.  I had my own little circle when I came and stayed in it.  I do know that Tico's are generally warm and open.

  2. I'm from Costa Rica myself, But I've lived in the USA since 1991. 3 years ago I went back for about a year due to some issues. I lived in San Jose and A place called Turrialba. I have many friends who moved to CR, and it wasn't difficult at all to become a citizen, in fact most are welcomed. As said above around $1,500 or up to $2,500 will get u a very good living , thats not including housing.. ( But remember where the dollar is standing right now, and what it will value to the colon.  Housing isn't as expensive as it used to be, I got a 3 bedroom house, 2 Car Parking, 2 Bathrooms, and the regular wash room for about 130,000 colones. Which really compared to here, isn't much.. At all. ( I pay 2,600  for a 2 bedroom house, 2 bathrooms , but its pretty large ) in Los Angeles. The medical facilities are AMAZING compared to the USA. Here in LA when I go to the hospital, I have to wait like 4 hours! In Costa Rica, i would go right by, and they don't doubt to give you a shot if you need it ( i.e the flu or such ) like here, where they think pills will work better, or you have to beg to get one. The social style in Costa Rica is very calm and varies from where you live, In places like San Jose, it's a little more rushed, But such as where I was born, In Turrialba, its a small town where everyone knowns everyone and everyone is friendly, and they are even more to outsiders, so it really varies from where you are. San Jose, In my opinion is now a death trap. So I would probably live somewhere maybe in Puntarenas, Guanacaste or one of those real nice places with the cool residentials ( which alot of them exist now days ). The weather in december is during the summer time, So it's going to be heat, But NEVER underestimate the Central American climate, it can change like snapping your fingers, it can be sunny, and then there is a river flowing down your street (sarcasm). Thats one of the main reasons to why I came bak to L.A . I hope the best, and it's an amazing country, the only thing I don't like about it , is the rainy season.
