Question:

Is there anyone out there who DOES NOT like the Twilight books?

I'm curious because I am the only person I know that read Twilight and didn't like it. My friends forced me to read it, insisting that it was the "best book ever," so I did. I just finished it, and I feel like I read the wrong book. I don't mean to offend anyone out there because I know that there are a lot of Twilight fans, but I want to know whether or not I'm just a freak for not liking the book. Here is what I have against it:

1. The writing is not exactly the best.

2. A lot of the parts were very corny, especially the love sections.

3. I kept waiting for Edward to turn her into a vampire, and it never happened.

4. I don't like Bella. She's not very friendly, so why are her friends so nice to her? I feel so bad for her friend Jessica when she's so nice to Bella, but Bella just ignores her and only thinks about Edward.

These are the main reasons I don't like this book very much. I didn't say I hated it, but it's not my favorite. Does anyone have anything to say, whether or not you like the Twilight books?

  1. LOL

I don't like it either. I tried to read the first few pages, but really didn't care for it.

    Good for us!

  2. Yes. There are others out there who DO use the search bar, too.

It may seem unlikely, but there are haters out there, I among them. Yes, it's me, your friendly Twilight hater, here with a rant and a rave...but seeing as you agree with me, I'll spare ya. I hate it, too-the whole Pollyanna-doodah vampire thing is just scary tortellini.

Okay. *sigh* Basic thing is: Twifans are in love with the 'concept' of the perfect man. That is all. Not the writing (which sucks) or the plot (which bombs), but the 'concept' of ole Eddie. Melting blazing sparkly topaz eyes and all. Rab

  3. everyone has their own opion so you shouldnt really care about what anyone else thinks. i liked the series. it was a good series to pass time with.

  4. I dislike Twilight. A lot of the characters are unrealistic... take Charlie Swan. He lived by himself for how many years and couldn't cook? And none of them are likeable in my opinion.

Also, I strongly dislike the descriptions throughout the book. I think over half the description has to do with Edward and his golden eyes... also, pg. 260... the incandescent chest bit is just bad. It reminds me of a giant filament.

Anyway, a lot of people don't like it. You aren't a freak.

  5. Yes there are lots. You probably saw us  when Breaking Dawn was released causing  chaos on here

    Here's my reasons

    1 TOO many plot holes

2 The writing didn't not improve in four books. It was cheeys and FANCITION LIKE.

3 Edward is portrayed as perfect when he really has some emotionally ABUSIVE qualities and that type of man is what Meyer wants her fangirls to fall for.

    4 Bella Swan=Beautiful Swan =WTF

5 Bella treats her human friends like c**p, she it too attached, is very stupid at times, and is too damsel in distress= a disgrace to all heroines out there.

6 The plot is the same in each book. Bella is weak and scared about events concerning Edward but she runs to Jacob and then runs back to Edward for an '' I love you" moment. Bella is a playa but she really has no game. They allow her to play them like little sparkly toys and cute teddy bears

7 Meyer goes against all of her rules. We saw that in Brekaing Dawn. Quoting her " My characters hide things from me" That's stupid at the end of a series the author well a good author should know everything about their characters

8 Some of the fans. Not all but some will kill anymore for yawning at these books. They say its the best book in the world because it got them hooked on reading but then again they haven't really read much if they are just starting to love reading now.You can't be reading much if you think its the best.

  6. I haven't tried it yet but I've read lots of mixed reviews about the series. For example: my female friends coons about a male character, "Edward", and tells me to read them. But I've read this letter in the August 18th edition of Maclean's written by a female teenager encouraging readers not to read it.

It says:"I would not want to live in a cookie cutter romance novel, with bland 2D characters such as a heroine who might as well be a Disney princess and a hero who has as much personality and spark as the prince in Snow White...So if they're looking for a good vampire book or good solid genuine romance with strong character and real bite, I would advise your readers to look elsewhere"

Ouch! After reading that review I'm sure I wouldn't want to read the series.

  7. That's pretty much the same thing that happened to me.  My friends all loved the book, so they forced me to read it.  I started to read it, but the writing was so horrendous that I actually had to force myself to skim it.  So I sort of read the book just to see if I liked the plot; I didn't.  When my friends asked me how I liked it, I said it was ok, but not amazing, they actually yelled at me.  But now, that I've thought about the book, I actually really hate it.  Here's why: the plot is completely sexist.  Bella is an annoying damsel in distress who needs to be saved every few minutes.  Edward only "falls in love with her" because she smells like she would taste good, so essentially, he looks at her like a piece of meat.  She only falls in love with him because he's hot.  Edward is obsessive, possessive, and controlling.  He tries to make decisions for Bella and sometimes uses his strength to implement them (prom).   Bella lets him do all this.  I think it's unhealthy for young girls to see this and think it's true love, even though it is really a disturbing relationship.  I've heard Twilight lovers say that he makes decisions for her "because he loves her" or "he's just trying to protect her" and this scares me.  Those types of excuses are used by women in abusive relationships trying to rationalize not leaving their partner.  This makes me scared that the girls who rationalize Edward's behavior, may end up doing the same later in life.  So basically, I really hate Twilight because it sets a bad example for young girls.

  8. I hated the first book. I didn't even get 1/3 through it and I took it back to the store for a refund. I went in with an open mind because I do like vampire stories and romances but I was not impressed at all with this. Those who say it is the best book ever clearly have never read anything else in their life. I've seen a ton of books aimed at even younger kids that are much better written than this was.

I didn't feel any sympathy at all for any characters. They were so unrealistic and bland it wasn't funny. Why would anyone idolize someone like Edward who has no respect for anyone else and is a controlling b*****d? In real life, that type of person would be shunned but yet he is worshipped in this series when there are countless reasons not to. The whole thing felt incredibly boring and saccharine. The writing was choppy and very poor quality. Also, the author was writing about places she clearly had never visited before. Nothing that she did write made sense at all.

I don't get what the appeal is. I felt like it was time and brain cells wasted that I'll never get back.

  9. Well, I 've never read them, and I honestly have no business doing so seeing as how I'm 19 years old and a guy, but even if I was younger, I wouldn't waste my time putting it in front of my eyes. And you shouldn't worry about offending people; some kidsd like easy reads and wouild never bother reading something that would stimulate their minds. It's too bad, but that's the way it is. But that being said, no, I've never read the whole book (let alone the series) but I feel like I don't have to. It's very obvious and clear what it will be like; a teen soap opera written by a woman who got lucky off of the backbone of the overrated Young Adult genre. That's how I feel. And good for you that you don't like bullsh*t novels. That says something about you.

  10. If you don't like it..why do you care what other people think?

  11. Its plain awful!  Its boring, cheesy, predictable, far fetched and just does nothing for me at all and if Edward treated me like that he would have a wooden stake through his heart!

As for Bella, she is a complete whimp.

The writing is just so terrible, the descriptions and plot are pathetic.

Its so bad you just have to read it all just to see if it gets any better!

I have to finish the series cos my best friend bought me 3 of the books after she saw me reading the first!

  12. I'm a few hundred pages in, and I'm still incredibly bored.
