Question:

Is there anyone out there who had a baby and didn't go for their post-partum check up?

I had a baby almost three months ago. I made an appointment twice but was unable to do it because I still had a small opening from the episiotomy I got. I am healed now and we've been holding off from intercourse until I got the post-partum but last night I just said s***w it.

Did anyone have complications from not having it done and had intercourse anyways?

  1. I had no complications, but i never went to my check up. I waited till my son was almost 6mths old to go to the doc. I had intercourse on my fifth week and everything turned out fine!

  2. Something like 1 in 4 women never go to the post-partum checkup.  If you don't have the money or the transportation, you are stuck.  If you feel well, it's not likely an issue this far down the line.

And no, I did not get a post-partum checkup, but that was my parent's choice, not mine. I was 16 at the time.

  3. I had one and it was a waste of time actually. Though you still should eventually have one don't worry about it. My appointment was two minutes- it was her asking how I was feeling, any problems and then telling me to see my regular doctor for a pap!

  4. I didn't go to my post-partum check up with my first.  My midwife was still on bedrest (she had emergency surgery) and I was sick of doctors.

With my second I had a 2nd degree tear and the midwife said "No s*x until the stitches go IN" (She waited until the next day for the swelling to go down and because she had to rush off to another woman).  We had s*x after.... 4 days?

Sorry to hear you had an episiotemy they really do not heal that well.  But if you feel that its healed you know your body better than the doctor.  If it hurts -STOP!
