This pain is recurring and sharp. Often when it strikes, it is so painful that it shoots down my leg. I went to the hospital to figure out what it was, however, since I have Crohnes, they were more focused on making sure it wasn't a blockage. Since it wasn't, they released me home and said it was an intestinal viral infection. I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas because I do not believe it is simply that. I have been having this pain for 2-3 months now, while viral infections usually go away within 2-3 weeks. If anyone has any idea as to what it could be, please help me.

  1. lower left abdoman. if it happens a few days or even a week or more a month before you start your period, it could be ovary trouble.many woman have crippling ovary pain, like me.i can hardly move when mine strike up. it last a week to 2 weeks every month. i have had several surgeries but nothing works. i would start writing down times and dates of the attacks and what you had eaten before it strikes. good luck

  2. I am a doctor, email me i need to know more but then i could try and diagnose u

  3. Well it probably IS your Crohns.  My mother has that disease and what happens is that it hits a section of your bowel, let's say a 3 or 4 inch section and the disease just seems to affect that particular area, causing pain in the same location.

Ruling out an ovarian cyst, the only way they can tell is to look inside your intestine somehow, by ingesting that chalky stuff etc. and seeing if there is a thickening of the wall or narrowing of intestine in that spot.

Some people who have Crohns also have Colitis which is ulcers of the intestine.  They can cause severe pain and bleeding too.  Try to avoid very fibrous foods and foods that irritate you.  Chew your food very well.  Eat meats and proteins.  Avoid nuts.

My mom is on almost zero fibre at this stage after 30 years of the disease and three resections, as what happens when its very chronic is that your stomach can't digest the food properly and it blocks the intestine, causing you to vomit as food has to come out someway...or it can actually twist or rupture too which is life threatening and excruciatingly painful.  So manage this disease and never take it lightly as it can become quite serious.

The other thing you might want to rule out is a HERNIA. That can happen too.
