Is there anyone who has had a shortening of the cervix during pregnancy? Maybe you can answer this.

I am at 33 weeks pregnant. My cervix started shortening at 20 weeks. It was down to 1.9 cm. I made some progress with medication and bedrest and my cervix lengthened back out to 3.5 cm. Now, it has dropped back down to 2.5 cm. Like I said I am at 33 weeks, and was wondering if anyone else has gone through a shortening of the cervix during pregnancy and if so, at what week did the Dr. take you off of the medication to stop contractions/shortening of the cervix?

  1. Shortening of the cervix is also called effacement, and is a normal part of labor.  Your Dr. will probably take you off your meds around 37 weeks. (full term)

Your cervix has to efface before it can dilate properly.
