I just relocated to columbus ga. i'am a victim of domestic violence and i came here with just the clothes on my back and my purse. Since relocating I've obtained employment and housing in just seven weeks. My dilemma is the fact that there seems to be no good furniture resources. I move in 2 morrow on8-6-08 and i do not have any furniture for me and my three yr old child. Can somebody please help me.Even if it's just some furniture to put in my sons room. If anyone will reach out to help us, I'd gladly appreciate it.

  1. Check craigslist in the free section.  Also, post an ad on craigslist in the wanted section.  Good luck!  If I could help you, I would!

  2. Try freecycle for your area (see link below).  Yahoo clubs also has local freecyle groups (link is below) you can join and get e-mails with the listings.

Basically, someone wants to get rid of something-could be anything from furniture, clothes, housewares, computer-anything.  They list it on freecyle.  It has to be free, or it can't be listed.  Usually, the first person to get there, gets it. Monitor your e-mails or the local freecycle website looking for what you need.

Other resources would be to call local churches and see if they have any programs to help you.  Try Salvation Army and Goodwill Industries.  Is there someone at work, you can confide in?  They may know of local resources to help you out.

If you haven't already, check out the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

    Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence

    P.O. Box 7532, Athens, GA 30604

    Atlanta, GA 30354

    (404) 209-0280 Fax: (404) 766-3800

Congratulations on all you've accomplished in the last seven weeks.  You're on the right track and things will get better for you.  Stay strong and stay away from the person who was abusing you.

  3. Try looking on craigslist.com.  You might be able to find something really cheap on there.  You might also try getting in contact with some domestic violence non-profits in the area and see if they can help you out at all.

  4. im sure there is some good will place near by or a community outreach that will sell things really cheap...

and since you have a job im sure you will be able to get furniture soon just like everyone else does. they work for their money.i dont mean to be rude but since you have a job im sure you can get something for u and ur kid.
