There were no tickets issued but my insurance considered me at fault. They paid the majority of the damages, and told me if I signed a wavier saying I didn't have other insurance, the other company would clear me. I did this and they still sent me a bill. Is there anything I can do?

I live in LA, CA

  1. Yeah, There is something you can do.

It's called "Pay the Bill" and take responsibility for your actions.

It appears that your insurer paid the maximum limits of your policy and tha the damage you did exceeded those limits.

You owe the difference. If you fail to pay for the remaining damages your drivers license can be suspended for up to 10 years or until you pay the bill, whichever comes first.

  2. Send your insurance company this subrogation request.  For some reason, they do not think you are insured.  Your insurance company will take care of it for you.

Edit - Alan is correct.  It does sound as if you had inadequate coverage.  If this is the case, you are responsible for the difference.  That is why you need to carry appropriate limits.  Compulsory limits of $5k is inadequate.

  3. First contact your insurance company and see if they can clear it up.

If that doesn't work, you really need to get lawyers involved.

    Good Luck...
