Question:

Is there anything I can do for my poor fish? He's just floating there

I think he was having problems with his swim bladder. He is a pretty good sized chiclid. On Wednesday he started swimming funny and Thursday he couldn't swim down, he'd just float right back to the top.

He only ate like one little flake a day. He wouldn't eat any peas. Now for the last 2-3 days he has been at the top pretty much just floating on his side. He went to the bathroom yesterday, I don't know if that means anything.

Is there anything I can do for him. Is it possible he will make it? Is there any medicine I can buy? I just feel so bad for him.

  1. I think he's dead.

  2. I think your fish has...  gone to fishy heaven ...

  3. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do for swim bladder disease in fish. It would be best to remove him from the tank so he does not spread any disease to the other fish.

  4. ohh my goldfish Punk had the same problem a couple days ago and I too felt so sad for him! I think your problem might be the same as mine.....when a fish comes to the surface they gulp air well I was feeding flakes that float...so when he was eating he was also gulping air and he had too much air in him and he couldn't swim right so I moved on with my other fish to sinking pellets!

  5. no i dont think you can help him now. i have had big fish in a pond go like that and the best thing to do is remove it from the tank because it could stress other fish .

  6. Just simply go to the veterinarian concerning the unusual behaviors occurring , or read about your fish to see if he needs a change in diet.

  7. i agree with brother otter or he could be playing dead

  8. the same thing happened to my fighting fish, it was so sad as this floating went on for 2 weeks with no food, before he died. i asked the pet shop but they didnt take me seriously so... idono if there is anything you can do... but i have heard of medicine for fish so check it out, hopefully you have more luck than me..

  9. Fish get old or sick and pass on.  Sorry.  Floating on it's side pretty much says your finny buddy has gone on to the Great Fishbowl In The Sky (or will be soon).
