Is there anything I can do to get my gums to not bleed during a dental appointment?

I don't have gross yellow teeth or anything, but my gums always bleed during the appointment, and my dentist gets ticked and I don't hear the end of it. what can I do so they don't bleed during the appointment? Will flossing a couple hours beforehand do anything, or will they just bleed more?

  1. I like the Peroxide suggestion...so long as you don't swallow it.

I've found that while it hasn't totally solved the problem, an electric toothbrush is the way to go. IT might sound lazy, but it really can do a little more than what a normal toothbrush does.

  2. Make sure to brush your gums when you brush your teeth. at least once a day.

also, if you have spare money lying around, you can get one of those high-tech toothbrushes that will help stimulate gum tissue or whatever.

basically, it'll fix them faster, and keep them healthier.

but i know what you mean about dentists, if mine even slightly bleed, the **** hits the fan.

  3. if they're bleeding its probably because your either not brushing enough or flossing. Your gums just aren't used to the pressure try flossing  more and brushing more efficiently.

  4. start like a month or some time before the appointment. floss twice a day and brush too. so that way your teeth get used to flossing or brushing and they won't bleed a lot.

  5. They bleed because you don't brush & floss effectively enough between your appointments. Unless you get hit in the mouth hard enough to knock out a tooth your gums should not bleed. what I did was rinse my mouth with peroxide for 30 seconds before brushing and it helps alot.

  6. If you take proper care of your teeth on a daily basis, after a time, your gums will stop bleeding. There's no fast solution. Your dentist is trying to get it through to you that you must take daily care or you'll lose the teeth later. It's aroudn 1200 dollars per tooth to put a fake on in. It's about 5 dollars for toothpaste and a cheap toothbrush. Also flossing daily is important. Daily dental hygiene is important here.

  7. Your gums are bleeding because you don't floss enough. You can be the best brusher ever and brush five times a day, but your gums will still bleed if you're not flossing correctly.

When you brush, hold the brush with the bristles at a 45 degree angle aimed into your gums. Move the brush in little circles this way around every tooth in your mouth, on the fronts, backs, and tops of your teeth. This process should take around 2 minutes.

When you floss, hold the floss between your thumbs and forefingers so you have a lot of control. Put the floss between your teeth and make a "C" shape around each tooth going up and down and below your gums. It will probably bleed, but the more often you do it, the less bleeding you'll see until it goes away. Brush at least twice a day and floss once. If you do make yourself bleed, rinse with listerine or warm salt water.

This is common in a lot of people. I know how to floss, but I get lazy about it, so my gums bleed sometimes at the dentist too! I need to practice what I preach!
