Is there anyhting I can eat or vitamins to take to help me gain my period back? I havent had it in 2 months and if it doesnt come in the next month I have to go back to the doctor and she said shes going to put me on a pill to make me have my period. but i dont want to take a pill because I know they all make you gain weight. I cannot have that.

I eat 1200-1400 cals a day, all healthy. low fat/no fat dairy, whole wheat bread, whole grains, veggies, fruits, brown rice, grilled chicken, salads. I dont eat fast food, fried, or anything like that ever. I also run 2-3 miles every day and on top of that have practice 3 hours for 4 days a week. and I do 250+ crunches a night.

I think that may be why ive lost my period but Im not sure.

Anyway, anything I can do?!

Please help me.

im 17, 5'5'', and 116 lbs.

thank you.

  1. Your question makes me glad i was born a male.

  2. It sounds like you need more fat in your diet. Too little fat in your diet will make your period stop. Only solution to that is eat more. Your calorie intake is pretty low, especially for the amount of exercise you're doing. I'm concerned from your post that it sounds like you have some body image/eating issues.

Otherwise, birth control does NOT make many women gain weight. I've taken 3 different pills and none made me gain any weight.

  3. It depends how old you are because you might just be having irregular periods or you might be pregnant.

  4. when u work out alot u dont get ur period as often

  5. I suggest you go on the pill, regardless of it's effect on your weight. You seem to be doing well food-wise and you're exercising a lot so it shouldn't be too difficult to maintain a healthy wait even if your on a pill.

  6. As others have pointed out, if your body fat is too low, it can cause your cycles to slow down or stop. And obviously, if you have had s*x, you could be pregnant.

However, they are wrong when they say there isn't much you can do. The reason you haven't had a period is because you haven't ovulated. Normally, you ovulate about halfway through your cycle, and the follicle that the egg popped out of (called the corpus luteum) starts producing progesterone for the rest of your cycle. If you get pregnant, the corpus luteum keeps pumping out the progesterone so the pregnancy is maintained until the placenta can take over the progesterone production. If you do not become pregnant, the corpus luteum dissolves after 12-16 days, and your progesterone level drops. It is this hormone drop that signals your body to start bleeding.

When a medical doctor wants to induce a period in a woman who hasn't had one in a while, he will give her a 2-week prescription for progestin pills, which is a SYNTHETIC lab-made form of progesterone. It is known to be carcinogenic and to mess with your other hormones and liver because it is NOT natural. But you can safely (and without a prescription) induce a period by buying non-prescription bio-identical progesterone cream online or at a health store. Use the cream once or twice a day for 12 days on your belly, inner thighs, inner arms, neck, feet, or anywhere else with thin skin. 1 or 2 days after you stop using the cream, your progesterone will drop and your body will have a period. The bio-identical progesterone cream is completely safe. It is molecularly identical to true human progesterone, and because you rub it into your skin instead of taking it as a pill, it is absorbed directly into your bloodstream and doesn't cause any problems with your liver or kidneys.

Two brands that I have used are Life-flo and Now. Both of these creams also have some herbs that are good for balancing female hormones in general though, so if you only want straight progesterone with nothing else added, you may have to google around to find a different brand.

  7. Why would you want it back lol?

  8. Have you had s*x? You may be pregnant (if you've had s*x obviously).

What it sounds like is you're very weight-conscious, so you may be too skinny. Some women who are much too thin lose their periods because they don't have enough fat.

  9. there is no possible way.

  10. It sounds to me like you aren't eating enough.  Think of how many calories you're burning with that exercise.  On days you're doing very strenuous exercise, you should be eating more, concentrate on carbs and proteins.

It also sounds like maybe you have a bit of a body image issue.

Bottom line is that periods come when the body is at a certain weight.  You're not at that weight and if you've gotten your period and now you're not, you aren't completely healthy.  You need to listen to your doctor on this one.  It could affect your future.

  11. same exact thing happened to me i didnt have my period for 2 months and the third month it came

b/c your a teenage girl your period can be irregular

so it might be your diet or

stress in your life but it will eventually come

  12. sorry, there's nothing really that can make it come besides the pills.

My friend had the same problem, just her's didn't come in like 5 months. The doctor gave her the pill and she took it for like a week and then she was fine.

You've missed it twice.. some people are weird like that. since you're only 17, you might still get it next month :)

  13. Just eat a little more each day, say 100 or 200 more calories every day.  That should help... and if you'r practicing so much and running on top of that... you should run 1 less mile a day.

    Hope I could help! :)

  14. im not saying running so much is bad for you but a lot of exercise can make you lose your period, my friend is a track star and during the season she never has her period, so if the running is a new thing maybe that is why you havnt been getting it.

  15. There's really not much you can do. If you do end up taking birth control pills, take Yasmin because it has a testosterone blocker which helps with the weight issue. Yasmin doesn't make you gain weight, but you have to take it at the same hour everyday. That might be the most difficult part.

Just ask your doctor again if there are other options, if you hadn't already.

  16. okay - most pills nowadays are so low dosed... they dont make you gain weight.  you should at least try it... you can always go off it if you dont like it. plus they have them so you only get your period 4 times a year (haaaaaallelujah).

You are young... your body is maturing... its great that you are trying to be so healthy but i thinkyou need to increase your calorie intake with all the activity you do... look at Michael Phelps... 12000 a day...

you may be missing your period because you arent getting enough nourishment.  be healthy.. but not to the point where you are harming yourself.  You're only 17 - enjoy it a little... :-D

  17. let ALL of your female body hair grow back. Your female body hair is very angry at you right now. How would you like it if your female body hair didn't want you?

  18. Remind your OB that 4 periods a year is considered normal now and is actually better (healthier) for a woman than having one every month. She knows this and it applies to you.

Tell you that you prefer to wait it out.

No one can force you to take pills. Not even your mother.

    No matter your age.

  19. you may need to gain some weight before this can happen, bodies will literally stop producing the right hormones if your underweight

although different body types have different "normal" weights

i suggest going to your doctors to find the problem out

  20. Well there are a number of reasons why a girl's period may stop but mainly the reason is that you are too under weight. It means your body thinks you are unhealthy and unfit to become pregnant. The only way to get your period back is to gain weight. Thats not a bad thing just gain that much more weight to become healthy again. I am young nearly 16 and I havent got my period yet cause I am too light.
