Is there anything I can do to improve this drawing?

I just wanted some feedback on this drawing I did of pointe shoes. I didn't want to make it too dark; I want the mood to be a little lighter. Should I make a darker background or will that draw too much attention away from the focal point? Wadaya think?

  1. The focal point is already the legs, not the shoes.  Darkening the background will heighten the contrast between it and the shoes, which are almost lost on the white, and will only draw attention away from everything if you make the background complicated.

Just darken it.  While this will present the shoes with more contrast than the legs, a good thing, it will, I suspect, also show that the focal point of this drawing is the legs not the shoes, and if you want the shoes to be the focal point you are just going to have to draw them bigger.

  2. M & M Lover, How sweet it is. Yes, make the background darker, not blacker, but middle gray. This will outline the shoes and legs for the image is almost a white on white drawing. This will highlight the image and focus the eyes on the shoes.

    Spartawo...

  3. this is a lovely drawing, you are very talented, i think the shading is fine but it seems like it needs more detail, in the dress and shoes

  4. honestly... i think this drawing is great... you could shade the shoes more and if your gonna change the back ground i'd say make the outside edges darker and gradually get lighter is you get closer to the focal point, but other than that its beautiful.
