My 3 year old son has a allergy to short haired dogs every time he goes near one his eyes swell and goes red, his face goes all blotchy, Ive taken him to the doctors but he said give him piriton but it don't work. Ive taken him back to the doctors and he said i need to give it time to work, I have and it don't.

The thing is some of the family have dogs and his friends in school have too so I don't want to keep him away from them. is there anything else I can give him?

  1. A good smacking

  2. get him a long haired dog or a cat

  3. if he has allergies, get rid of the dog...

what is more important, your dog, or your son?

  4. I would take him to a allergist and get tested.

My Son is allergic to cats and many many other things. He is on shots for this and it has helped him alot.

  5. try benadryl, but you might just have to explain to family and friends that he does not need to be around the dogs, and let your family (i wouldn't tell your friends) they need tovacuumm real good when they know he is coming over

  6. Benadryl is a common treatment for this on occasion.  However, I would suggest taking your son to an allergist as there are shots he can get to prevent the reaction in the first place.  He must be particularly sensitive if he reacts from being in contact with the people with dogs and not just the dogs.

BTW, just short haired dogs?  That's kinda strange. All dogs produce dander....

  7. take him to another doctor that works with youh and lets youh know about youhr son,

but big props for caring about youhr son being alrgic and asking for help

im 12 and im sick myself so im home =/

  8. If you have already seen the pediatrician has he recommended an antihistamine like benadryl?  Also, depending on how badly his reaction is, he may need an epipen if his throat starts to swell up, but again, consult with his physician.  The only other thing is as with all allergies is to avoid the dogs as best as possible.  You can ask the family to put the dog outside or kennel inside so that your son can play freely without having to worry about this and you can certainly ask the parents of his friends if they would kindly put the dog out so that your child doesn't suffer.  If anyone refuses, you have no choice but to protect your child yourself by avoiding all contact with the animals.

  9. Marie... Piriton are rubbish.. I don't know why they even sell them still. I suffer from terrible allergies including dogs and I use Benadryl allergy tablets.. not the one a day ones, the others.

I have two dogs myself and the tablets are so effective that these dont affect me at all x

  10. well sounds like you dont have a choice other than keeping your son away from the animals

  11. Have you taken him to an allergist, not a pediatrician? A Ear, nose and throat is idea too.

Talk to your pharmacist too about the drug and how it works.Any new meds my kids go on I have the pharmacist explain in detail to me.  How long is long. Ask your doctor for details. A week or a month for it to work. Is it best to give the meds. at night or morning.

My son had to get shots for over two years. It did help him. If he is that allergic that he immediately has a reaction you are just going to have to keep him away from dogs.

My son spent a lot of years not being able to go outside in the evening because of allergies and asthma. I had other activities planned for him so he wasn't just sitting around inside.
