Is there anything I can use to make the smell go away, or smell less?

We recently bought a home and have done a lot to fix it up so far, but in one of the bedrooms, their cat decided to use the carpet as a litter box. It only is in one corner, so its not all over, and we have already cleaned the carpets (it helped maybe a little). Anyway, long story short my husband has recently been laid off (otherwise we would just replace the carpet) and I need to find something to help even a little bit. I have talked to a few different people and a lot of them just say replace the carpet, which we will in a couple months, but with my husband out of a job, we can't at the moment. Has anyone on here found anything that works to help even a little bit.

  1. You might cut and remove the affected corner of carpet, heavily bleach the exposed flooring and cover with a throwrug until you can recarpet the room.

  2. Look under the existing carpet... if there are hardwood floors you can pull the carpet up and just clean the floor underneath.  If the smell bad and there is no hardwood, you can pull it up anyway and just paint the floor underneath until you can re-carpet the room.

  3. Yes. Go to Pet Smart or Petco etc and get a gallon jug of Natures Miracle (be sure you get the formula for cat urine) You may have to ask someone, they have it seperate from the regular Nature's Miracle. Just pour it on and let it saturate. It will not be immediate. It has enzymes that actually eat away at the cat urine untill it's all gone and there's nothing left to smell. It takes a day or so. I have three cats and always keep it on hand. It works......

http://www.petco.com/product/2437/Nature... If it's only in one spot this should absolutely do the trick.

  4. Try sprinkling a litter box deodorant with baking soda on the area to be treated.

  5. you can find cleaners just for urine smell and stain. if not trying scrubbing with baking soda and vinegar. also maybe put an air purifier in there or let the room air out a lot!
