  1. Nope. Once you buy it, it's yours. There's no law that allows you to return a vehicle and cancel the deal. Sorry.

  2. Unfortunately, no, unless the dealer/person you bought from expressly gave you a written statement allowing you to return the vehicle within a certain time period. You can always ask, but don't expect the seller to agree.

Many people think there is a "72 hour" grace period for car purchases. There is not. This misconception is based on laws that apply to certain other types of sale, but not to automobile purchases or lease.

  3. The answers to this question varies greatly by what State you are in.  Some states have what they call "over the curb" delivery, meaning if you signed all the paperwork and drive the vehicle over the curb, you own it.  Other states have a specific "buyers remorse" period (that's where the 72  hour idea comes from).  In other States (like Michigan where I primarily worked) you are not a legal owner until the Secretary of State's office (DMV) processes your paperwork, which depending on how busy they are, could take several days or occasionally longer. If a buyer calls the DMV in Michigan and requests that they halt the processing of the title paperwork, in my experience, if the buyer calls in time, they do comply.

The best possible advice I could give you is for you to call your State's department that handles vehicle registration and titles, explain your situation, and ask what your particular State's laws and regulations are concerning ownership.

    Hope this helps,
