Is there anything else i should be doing?

We are getting married on a Friday night with the Pastor at my church as opposed to a courthouse. We are doing this October 10th already. Just the vows are being said with a little mini ceremony. Our parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews will be the only ones present for this. The plan is to have the big wedding on the same date (Saturday) next year with all the family and your normal wedding itinerary.

So i am wondering...Should i send out invites to make it official for this quick wedding to my immediate family, do i get a dress different than the wedding dress (9 months pregnant at time if quick wedding), do i give out a gift like you normally would to our parents, maid of honor or best man (my sister and his brother) for being there and signing the license?

Its not an official "wedding" per se but we will be married in the state's and god's eyes.

We are also planning on maybe going out to eat after? Not sure what else to do. We cant have the ceremony early because of a wedding rehearsal already planned...I'm thinking it will be around 7:30 or 8:00 for us to get married. Any opinions...please be kind. Serious inquiries only. Thank you.

  1. Dont act on impulse. Do what feels right. Since you are having another ceremony a year out, I say hold off on buying the dress and instead get a more casual white dress to wear friday. It would be nice to give your parents gifts, but I say wait on all the others, just so you wont be so press for time and feel like you are running around crazy. Also you'll probably want to give them gifts at the big wedding that you are planning later down the road. Just think it out some.

  2. First, it's God, with a capital G.

If you are married in the state's and God's eyes why is your wedding not official?

Will you not be a real wife and husband after the ceremony?

Since your ceremony is so late in the day perhaps you should have a fun punch and cake reception afterward.  It is pretty late in the day to be going out to eat.

If you feel like giving a gift (even if it's something very small) to your parents, best man, and maid of honor you should.

Good luck with your special day.  And remember, God is very happy to attend your ceremony.  Just make sure you invite him to the marriage.

  3. Sign a prenup.
