Question:

Is there anything harmful in fluorescent light bulbs that would be harmful in it got into a wound?

not that i have anything against them, but i broke one today and i had a open cut on my hand (not from the bulb though)

  1. Anything can be harmful if it gets into a wound. There are millions of bacteria living on the shard that can be harmful to your body. You may want to treat it with Hydrogen Peroxide to kill the bacteria. If you see signs of an infection, you should consult a doctor immediately to get professional help.

  3. hmmmmmmm  you may have already noticed this but I thought it worth mentioning that there is often sharp glass involved and that isn't too fun in a wound...

  4. I agree with Derek. While I always use (energy saving) fluro bulbs, I'm always careful not to break them, and when I dispose of them, I do so carefully because they emit harmful levels of mercury.

    I would clean the area with plenty of water. If the injury happened hours ago, try to prevent infection, just in case.

    Edit: I just realised this sounded a little dramatic. I'm sure you'll be fine, but it's good to be aware of anyway :)
