I am planning on soldering only to one of these post. Is there anything that I can place onto the surrouding posts before I solder so that I don't have to worry about going back and removing solder spiller over?? Thanks...here is the pic..

  1. Those are not posts, they are solder pads for a SM (surface mount) component.

These are very fragile. Use a very fine point soldering iron, and the proper solder. Practice on something else before you attempt this.

Do not solder to the IC lead where it is not in contact with the PC board. Use very thin wire, tin it first, and just lay it on top of the IC lead where it is soldered to the PC board and apply a little heat from your iron. The solder should reflow. Do not move anything and wait for the solder to solidify.

edit: looking a little more closely, it appears that IC pin has a trace connecting it to one side of R3. That may be a bit better point to solder to.

Trace out the PC stripes and see if you can find something larger to solder to.

And to answer your question, I wouldn't try to put something on the other leads. Just make the solder connection as I described above, and do it fast so the leads don't get a chance to heat up.

Use of clip on heat sinks would be good, but it looks too tight to use them.

If I were really inexperienced and wanted the ultimate in protection, mash up some tissues with water to form a paste, and put a dab on the other neighboring leads, and on the part of the one you are soldering to, next to the IC. The water will prevent heat buildup. But I wouldn't bother.
