  1. Lent?

By and large, no. Mostly because most Christians don't have the fervency of belief required to actually undergo hardship for their beliefs.

  2. the only fasting that is done in Christianity are personal ones... and fasting isn't necessarily fasting food (though that is the most common) but it is fasting whatever the person feels like is getting in the way of him/her and God (i.e. video games) i have a youth leader who had fasted T.V. for a year.

  3. Roman Catholics sometimes fast during lent.

  4. Our Lady has requested at Medjugorje that people fast on bread and water every Wednesday and Friday.

    God bless!

    Dave

  5. no, christians gotta get their daily serving of hot pork, you kidding, fasting, lmao

  6. lent is a sort of change in one's regular food intake, done in moderation in order to have people appreciate what god provides etc...

of course the muslims took it to an extreme.

  7. Actually, Mystics of all Faiths, including Christian Mystics use fasting, prayer, & meditation as tools for the same thing of which the article speaks. We feel that we lay aside the things that feed the body for a period of time so that that which feeds the Soul & Spirit of man may rise to predominate in our awareness. In my tradition it was a bit different. We would do complete fasts except for water for 3 to 4 days. This was not usually just a food fast but a fast from the world also. We secluded ourselves from contact with others, no TV, radio, etc. Just Spiritual books, yourself, & God. It always had a profound effect if done with single mindfulness & focus.

    Blessings!
