Im renting 2 rooms, When i moved in she said everything is included ( gas and electric) but i have to put oil for heat and hot water (which the cost has to be divided between the tenants of the apt) but i didnt have to worry for a month because the tank was filled. I been living there for 3 months, the other tenant moved out, so now she says i have to pay for the oil that was there when i moved in. Which i told her its not affair because there was another tenant living there a month and she didnt tell her she had to pay. I know for a fact because it was my friend. So she started yelling at me about the electric bill and gas bill. I always pay my rent every month in full and on time. I worked full time so im hardly home only on weekends and i dont hardly have company and when i do we are not loud and at unconvenient times. I already told her im leaving at the end of next month. but what can i legally do so she can stop harrassing me until i move?

  1. You  should  call  your  Local legal aid in your TOWN  and  ask  about  tenants right and make appointment  for rules and regulations ,they will guide and tell you  what you can do.......

  2. In most states it is illegal for a landlord to harass a tenant even if they are being evicted. If I were you, I would send a certified mail...return receipt requested stating the issue in full and giving them a written notice and also state that if she continues to treat you in a harassing manner you will exercise your legal rights as a tenant. Also, start documenting these things in a journal and if you can remember dates and times of other incidences write those down too. If you are low income, there may be free legal help in your area as well. Best wishes....

  3. She's trying to intimidate you.  Mail her a letter via Certified Mail with a payment for your share (1/3rd or whatever) telling her that you're paying what you've previously agreed upon.  If she disagrees, then she should take you to small claims.

Also, make sure you provide your move-out notice in writing.  If she is dishonest about the utilities, then she will be dishonest about your move-out notice.

    Good Luck

  4. Not much

Be sure to give written notice as required by your lease, or 30 days in advance of rent payment if on month to month
