Is there anything special you need to do when pressing flowers?

I got flowers for my birthday and want to press a few in a book before they go bad. Do I just press them into a book?

  1. And if you want to keep the shape of the flower, Just want to dry it.  You can put it stem down in a container of sand slowly sprinkle sand over it until covered and let it set for a month in a dry place.  Slowly remove the sand and the flower will be dry and still have its shape.  Hope this helps.  I have done this.


  2. I use old telephone books- place the flowers in the pages, put 2 bricks on top of them and let them sit for a few months.  Don't put them between pieces of paper towel- the impressions in the towel will be on your flowers.

  3. yes put a weight on the book and forget about them for a while ,

    I did that procedure with Pansies and they look wonderful, hey retained the shape and colour, , you can then place them in between 2 pieces of glass  use clamps and you have a very special piece of art.
